Penn State Project Haiti

founded 1997

To love God and neighbor is not something abstract, but profoundly concrete:
it means seeing in every person the face of the Lord to be served, to serve him concretely.
And you are, dear brothers and sisters, in the face of Jesus.
—Pope Francis

Who Are We?

Project Haiti is a recognized student club at Penn State University that was founded 19 years ago through Catholic Campus Ministry to make students more personally aware of the economic disparity that exists between those living in the United States and those living in developing countries. The club serves to enlighten the minds and enliven the hearts of its members so they may work to shape a more just and peaceful future for many of our sisters and brothers wherever they may be. Although the foundation of the group is with the Catholic Campus Ministry, our members consist of students from all faiths.

What Do We Do?

Project Haiti’s mission is to raise funds and awareness for Haiti, and to be in solidarity with the Haitian people. We specifically raise funds for Maison Fortune orphanage in Hinche, Haiti, and Jaksonville Village. A small percentage is also donated to the Azil Foundation, Xaverian Brothers, and other charities.

Why Are We Special?

What distinguishes Project Haiti from other campus organizations is that while we engage in a variety of fundraisers, we offer our members the opportunity to gain a new perspective on life. Participation in Project Haiti puts you in touch with a unique people and culture. Learning from their traditions, as well as sharing your time and talents can be a life-changing experience. If you love discovering new things, accepting a leadership role, giving back, all while having fun—Project Haiti provides an atmosphere that will certainly be conducive to your growth here at Penn State. By joining Project Haiti, you become part of a rich legacy that has changed the lives of thousands, and one that will leave a profound impact on your life.
